On 13 September 2013 Colorectal Surgeons, Dr David Clark and Dr Andrew Stevenson performed Australia’s first live transmission of 3D laparoscopic colorectal surgery, telecasting their procedures into our Education Centre with 30 national and international colorectal surgeons in attendance.

This Colorectal Masterclass was a one day workshop for delegates to learn and gain competencies in the latest laparoscopic approach and techniques whilst using new OLYMPUS devices- the new 3D video laparoscopic ENDOEYE FLEX 3D™ which provides depth perception and a precise spatial view of anatomy and the new THUNDERBEAT™ from OLYMPUS which employs fully integrated bipolar and ultrasonic technology..
Local and international colorectal surgeons moderated the two live and concurrent 3D surgical procedures, in addition to providing clinical education as the two cases progressed.

Embracing new technologies, advancing colorectal surgical skills and sharing their knowledge is not new to our colorectal surgeons.
Drs Clark and Stevenson have for the past eleven years been teaching and training national and international surgeons, laparoscopic and surgical techniques to improve patient outcomes.

Every four weeks Dr Clark and Dr Stevenson operate in our i-suites at HSNPH, to demonstrate to visiting surgeons and their operating scrub nurses their colorectal laparoscopic surgery techniques and the use of cutting edge technologies. The course is a comprehensive ‘in theatre’ and skills-based training program supported by data, video presentations and informal discussions.

Holy Spirit Northside Private Hospital is very fortunate to have two exemplar colorectal surgeons sharing their skills, advancing surgical techniques, supporting the hospital and caring for our patient community.
