St Vincent’s is pleased to announce that Dr Chris Robinson – formerly Medibank’s Chief Medical Officer, Customer – has begun his role as its new National Chief Medical Officer.

Chris brings a wealth of experience from his recent role at Medibank, where he led the development and delivery of innovative models of care to the health fund’s members, including transforming mental health care, increasing access to chronic disease prevention, and improvements in surgical outcomes.

Prior to that, Chris was Medical Director at Eucalyptus, one of Australia’s largest digital health providers.

For Robinson, it’s a return home: Chris was previously Executive Director of Innovation and Improvement at St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney for three years. During this time, Chris led the network’s focus on innovation and change, particularly in the areas of AI, telehealth, and virtual care. He also played a lead role in coordinating St Vincent's Hospital Sydney's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Robinson said he was excited to be re-joining St Vincent’s at a time of immense change, both for the broader health and aged care sector and the organisation.

“St Vincent’s is committed to delivering half of its care in people’s homes and through virtual and digital platforms by 2030,” said Chris.

“That includes hospital-level care: from pre-admission through to recovery.

“That’s a major – and ambitious – undertaking. St Vincent’s currently experiences around 2 million connections with patients and residents each year across its health and aged care services in three states.

“St Vincent’s is planning on building Australia’s largest virtual and home care system. I’m really excited to be joining the leadership team at such a critical juncture and bringing my experience, particularly in digital health, innovation, and health transformation, to benefit that vision.

“A lot of my career has been about being a ‘doctor for the system’. In other words, pursuing and leading the changes that help unlock the full capacities of clinicians and their teams.

“There is so much we can be doing to advance better, fairer and more effective health care in Australia – particularly with the benefits of technology. And in doing so, we can care for more people and take the pressure off our hospitals and the wider healthcare system.

““I’ve had the privilege of calling St Vincent’s home before, including during the COVID response. I’m very excited to be returning now – four years later – to take on this new challenge,” said Chris.
