- Reflects increasing role in national St Vincent’s Health Australia network
- Announces plans for Queensland’s most advanced hybrid theatre
Leading Brisbane hospital Holy Spirit Northside has been officially renamed as St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside following St Vincent’s Health Australia taking on full ownership, as well as management of the hospital.
The move reflects the increasingly important role the Brisbane hospital plays in the national St Vincent’s Health Australia network, Australia’s largest non-profit provider of health and aged care services.
It also coincides with the internationally respected hospital announcing plans to build what will be Queensland’s most state-of-the-art hybrid operating theatre to open
The new purpose-built hybrid operating theatre will feature the most advanced medical imaging technology, including a robotic C-arm imaging device, and will be significantly bigger than most operating theatres.
The new theatre aligns with the hospital’s commitment to innovation in structural heart surgery and interventional cardiology and the growing need in the community for interventional procedures around cardiovascular and peripheral vascular disease and vascular disease.
“It’s an exciting step in what is quickly emerging as a new era in cardiology and the rise of interventional and minimally invasive procedures,” said St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside CEO Daniele Doyle.
“We want to enable better patient outcomes – this is about living the St Vincent’s ethos of care and support. The acknowledgement of our role in the national St Vincent’s Health Australia network says a lot about the quality of what we do and the importance of our growing leading-edge facilities and talent.”
St Vincent’s Heath Australia Group CEO Toby Hall added: “The work being done in Brisbane is extraordinary, from the 50 active research projects currently underway to ground-breaking cardiac and orthopaedic patient care. The hospital was one of the first in the Southern Hemisphere to offer robotic orthopaedic surgery and continues to host and teach international colleagues on robotics.”
About the new hybrid operating theatre
Due to open mid-2020, the new hybrid operating theatre will feature the most advanced medical imaging technology. Its robotic C-arm imaging device can be moved over or under any part of a patient’s body to deliver three-dimensional, high-definition imaging. Surgeons can observe the progress and accuracy of their work on monitors in theatre in real-time.
The new theatre will be approximately 74m2 to accommodate the new and advanced medical infrastructure, as well as ensuring adequate operating space for the team of specialists, who will be treating patients with advanced, complex structural heart and vascular disease. The new hybrid operating theatre supports the growing need for advanced minimally invasive procedures, which are less traumatic for patients and significantly reduces patient’s length of stay.
