When Caroline King heard about palliative care patients at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane carrying portable syringe pump devices, her response was remarkable.
Caroline has spent the past two weeks handcrafting over 30 custom tote bags designed to fit standard-sized portable syringe pump devices.
Portable syringe pump devices are used to dispense medications. These devices are commonly used by palliative care patients to help control distressing symptoms and during end-of-life care.
After sewing each tote, Caroline kindly donated the bags to the palliative care team at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane.

The bags feature a range of colours and patterns suitable for both men and women in palliative care. Caroline selected colourful fabrics with varying patterns hoping to brighten a person’s day.
“We have already started distributing the bags to palliative care patients,” Nurse Practitioner Annabelle May said.
The response has been positive.
“I love watching patients and their families receive the handmade bags and the smiles they bring to people’s faces,”
“These bags are beautiful and we thank Caroline for her kind donation,” Annabelle said.
