Public Hospitals Division – St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne

Today, St Vincent’s operates from 16 sites across greater Melbourne, including a major teaching, research and tertiary referral centre situated in Fitzroy, sub-acute care at St George’s Health Service Kew, palliative care at Caritas Christi Hospice, as well as aged care, correctional health, mental health and community centres, pathology collection centres, general practice services and dialysis satellite centres.

Public Hospitals Division – St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney

Eighteen months ago, St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney embarked on arguably its most important planning effort in 160 years when it launched its Integrated Health Care Campus Clinical Services Strategy. In 2017-18, the hospital made significant progress in the strategy’s six areas of focus: precision medicine, new ambulatory models of integrated care, telehealth and virtual care, the Heart, Lung Vascular Centre of Excellence, establishing cost-effective models of care, and advocating and providing health services to poor and vulnerable people.

Australia continues to experience a challenging private health care sector characterised by softening demand for elective surgery and reduced hospital volume growth, more private patients seeking treatment in public hospitals, and increasing numbers of young people in particular either discontinuing or reducing their private health cover.

Aged Care Division

After a busy 2016-17 which saw the opening of three greenfield sites, the transition of two facilities from other providers to St Vincent’s, major extensions and refurbishment at a number of other facilities, and an increase in the delivery of our in-home Community Living services, 2017-18 was a year of consolidation.
