Through its health and aged care services, St Vincent’s Health Australia operates more than 2,600 hospital beds, 1,100 aged care places, employs over 16,000 staff, works with over 2,500 medical practitioners, and draws on the talents of over 1,300 generous volunteers. Each year we provide care to more than 250,000 inpatients and over a million episodes of ambulatory care through our outpatient services.
Our commitment to teaching and training
St Vincent’s Health Australia in partnership with Australia’s leading universities has an exemplary record in clinical education. Our education partners include the University of Melbourne, University of New South Wales, University of Wollongong, University of Notre Dame, University of Tasmania, University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, University of Southern Queensland, Australian Catholic University, RMIT, Deakin University and LaTrobe University.
Our students consistently achieve results far above the national average and St Vincent’s Health Australia’s education centres lead innovation in education and training. Sharing knowledge is an integral part of our culture. Senior medical staff and mentors are accessible to trainees, forming collegiate relationships that encourage communication and questions. Our nurse education programs range from undergraduate to postgraduate programs encouraging nurses to develop their careers and extend their clinical and research expertise.
Our education centres offer state of the art teaching facilities for medical, nursing and allied health students. Our clinical laboratories feature human patient simulator mannequins that have anaesthetic and resuscitation simulation capacity, and wet laboratories with technology that can link with our operating theatres locally and viewing locations internationally. This allows us to bring the latest techniques in medicine and surgery anywhere in the world to our doorstep.

St Vincent’s Health Australia has long standing relationships with some of the country’s leading medical research institutes: the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, the O’Brien Institute and St Vincent’s Institute. Our research partners also include the University of Melbourne, the Bionic Ear Institute, the University of Wollongong, the Melanoma Institute Australia, the Urban Mental Health Research Institute, the University of New South Wales, the Institute of Virology and the Australian Catholic University.
